Something I've noticed about Gen Z and Gen X doomerism

Discussion

In the 80s/early 90s Gen X wore their cynicism on their sleeve. The media wasn't openly reporting about how fucked the world was back then despite conservative leadership under figures like Reagan and Thatcher. They knew the state of things very well and they weren't gonna be quiet about it. This is reflected in the popularity of heavier music genres that lasted up until the early 2000s.

Nowadays with every news outlet under the sun reporting about one bad thing after another happening it seems the vibe with Gen Z has shifted towards escapism - EVERYONE knows damn well how bad everything is but talking about it just makes them feel bad so there's this undercurrent of "let's just have fun and forget about the shittiness of the world for a moment". Complaining about how crap everything is seems really frowned upon now and is confined to the internet or between close friends.

Am I right or nah?
