Can you safely have an 8 lb cat and a 20+ lb cat?

I have a 8 lb fully grown cat, she is just a naturally tiny framed girl. I’m looking to get her a friend. Assuming they like each other, would it be unwise to get a second cat who is a much larger breed, like a 20+ lb Maine coon? Or would it be a non-issue?
