Kill Team virgin help

Hey dudes, I’m a broke SOB and painter looking to dip my toes in playing Kill Team. I’m a degenerate contrarian which means I’m interested in the Kroot or Tau (obvious choices as an Oddworld and anime fan). Are either of these good ideas for a noob or are they better in the hands of more experienced players? What are some alternative newbie friendly teams to consider if I’m not keen on playing human-looking characters? Thanks for any advice or wisdom you dispense!
