About bosses.

So I was exploring mt. Zhenwu and came across the altar gate which I'm pretty sure is a boss. but I haven't explored the forest yet and I'm sure there's bosses over there as well. So my question is, in what order do i fight these bosses? Do I start with the altar boss (if it is one) or do I go explore the forest first?
