Help with rescuing my parents’ corgi

Advice

Hi all!

My parents have two corgis, 7 and 10 years old. Last week, the dogs suddenly got into a fight, and the younger one's eye was dislocated. My heart is absolutely broken. Hopefully he can be fixed up and life can go on, one-eyed but happy. We will know more about his condition after Wednesday.

After what happened, the dogs will have to be separated. I live with my boyfriend on the other side of the country (800km from my parents). We live in northern Europe. We have been talking about adopting the older corgi, and I would very much appreciate any tips you can give me to help the dog adjust.

The dog is used to living in a detached house and has spent a lot of time in a big cottage without a leash. We live in an apartment building.

The dog is stubborn by nature, loves to herd and very attached to his owners. I lived with him for about a year before I moved in, and have seen him regularly. The dog loves me and also my boyfriend.

My boyfriend and I both grew up with dogs, but we have never owned a dog of our own. I have, however, taken a lot of care of my sister's dogs before.

What are some things we should take into account when the dog arrives or even before?

I welcome any advice you can give me, thank you a million times already! <3

If there’s any extra info that you need regarding our situation or the dog please ask and I will respond as soon as I can.
