Can christians get tattoos?

Hi all. This topic is usually taboo. I have had a very long and hard think about this. I want to get a tattoo of my 2 dogs on my arm but I was baptized last year and some might look at me and judge me harshly.

In this economy, it's hard to say if I ever will get children. I consider my 2 dogs as my children. I have spoke to good pastors and a lot says there is no issue. I only plan on getting the tattoo of my dogs and John 3:15-19 verse.

I know the leviticus verse exists since it's the only verse taken out of the Bible in such topic. But I do understand that tattoos are permanent and you will be looked down on.
