Best friend will not speak to me

Rant/Vent

I guess I’m just looking for support here..

My (then) boyfriend and I unexpectedly found out I was pregnant at the end of April. We decided immediately that we wanted to get married prior to the babies arrival and before I started showing. We had a simple elopement at the beginning of June, just the two of us- no one else.

I told one of my best friends who lives 4 hours away over the phone in a VERY quick phone call at the beginning of May. She was at work and could only talk for a few minutes. I tried to have her call me when she was not working but she insisted. The conversation was brief and only about the baby, I did not get the chance to tell her we were getting married. I honestly forgot to tell her. This happened with a few people bc the baby news was so exciting, we would forget to also mention we were getting married. Not that getting married wasn’t a big deal to us, but our focus has been on the baby.

After the phone call I sent her pictures of my first ultrasound. Left on read. A few weeks later I texted to tell her we were expecting a girl. Again, left on read. I didn’t think much of it because this friend and I often go months without talking.

We announced our marriage on social media and I noticed this friend hadn’t liked/commented on the post but was viewing my stories. I realized I had never told her our plans to elope. I immediately messaged her and apologized for her finding out on social media. She responded with “Congratulations.” I then invited her to a party my family was throwing for us to celebrate the marriage. She immediately responded that she couldn’t go. I told her no worries and just let it go. I was hurt and it bothered me but we were on our honeymoon at the time and I didn’t want to let the situation affect our time.

Fast forward to today, I sent out digital baby shower invites. We’re having two, one closer to where she lives. I texted her explaining she would get an invite to both so she could attempt to go whichever one was more convenient for her. She never responded but RVSP’d no. Up until today I have just tried to let it go. We are in our 30’s and have been friends since we were 18. I’m at the point in my life where if someone is upset with me, I expect us to have a conversation about it and handle it like adults. Also my pregnancy has had some complications so I’ve tried to just focus on the baby and not further stress myself. I decided to message her and explained that I could tell she was upset with me and I wasn’t sure why but that I’d like to have a conversation so I could make amends. She has yet to respond.

When my husband and I first started dating this friend literally cried with me as I was telling her about our relationship and how good of a man he is. She is over the top and eccentric and just a ball of energy, so her lack of a reaction to my pregnancy and marriage is so noticeable.. I totally take the blame for not telling her about the elopement and want to make things right but she won’t even give me the time of day. I feel like an asshole but at the same time I feel like we are way too old for this. I can only do so much, especially if she won’t give me the opportunity to let me know what I did wrong. Has anyone been through a similar experience? I’m at work trying to hold it together but I’m having a hard time. TIA
