Finally got a job offer after 11 months and 400+ resumes
I was fired 11+ months ago after working at the company for over 10 years. I had a new boss of 6 months and we didn't get along. The company gave me 6 months severance and insurance, so I figured it would be an easy transition into a new job. Well, 400+ resumes and around 30 interviews with various companies later, I finally received an offer for a decent job. I have 25 years experience in my field (IT Operations) and many certificates like ITIL and several Microsoft certs, but it was brutal. I actually got to the point where I had to sell my house because I couldn't afford it anymore and I was planning on moving to a LCOL area out of state. Then I found this job in my area, interviewed over 1 week and received the offer. It doesn't pay as much as I was making before but the company seems like a good place to work in terms of how they treat the employees, 4 days a week remote and some other nice benefits, so I'm happy and thankful. Plus, I don't have to move away to a new place but I do need to find a rental place very quickly. I'm lucky, I'll have some money in the bank from selling the house, just in case things go south and I'm looking forward to starting new job next Monday. Of course, there were times I was discouraged, I was finalist for 4-5 jobs that I was very qualified for but couldn't close the deal. I suspect my age (56) and being fired from last job didn't help with that process but here we are. I don't have any cool tips or tricks for people in similar situations, I didn't develop a "process" but I just kept at it and it finally paid off. So, good luck to everyone else, I know how hard it is but just keep grinding and hopefully something good will come your way too.
