AITAH for bringing up a 6 month old incident where my husband was very angry
6 months back - my husband got a last minute invitation to attend his friend's 25th wedding anniversary celebrations which were on Sunday. We moved a party that we were hosting at our house from Saturday to Friday, so we could drive to the venue (a 2 hour drive for us) on Saturday. My son had a Saturday morning basketball game that he planned to go for, and after the game they stopped over for lunch. This made my husband very angry - he was ready to leave our house Saturday from lunch, and kept getting angry about this delay. I had to pacify him and tell him that this was the end of the school year, our son had worked very hard and he surely deserved a break with his friends. I also told my husband that he could have taken the train and left earlier - and to that he said yes he should have and that is what he will do, and not rely on us etc. And we were heading to the venue anyways.. When I went to pick up my son - I told him to be calm if my husband were to start scolding him for making all of us late.
When we went to his friends house, we were NOT late. (note the event was the next day anyway). We were welcomed and everyone was busy getting the venue ready for the next day. However, all the friends kids were out at Disney downtown. (so my kids were the only kids there) - and 2 other grown-up kids who were involved in the anniversary planning. The next day at the event, my kids were still on their own (the other kids were hanging out and didn't make any effort to talk to our kids - nor did our kids initiate much conversation)
Now, it has been more than 6 months since this incident and my husband is planning his 50th party. We were wondering if he should invite our friend's kids. One friend who lives very close to our house, and we are always invited to their house - he picked on this friend's daughter and kept saying that she doesn't say a word to our kids. Then we moved to our out-of town friends, so I recalled how his friends kids had left the day before the event and that there wasn't much interaction with our kids. He agreed to there not being much interaction, but he was very upset that I was picking on his friends kids leaving for disney downtown the day before and said that that was a very natural thing to do. He said if you have out of town friends visiting and you don't know the kids, but you know 4 people wouldn't they just go to disney downtown? I said would we do that if we know 2 kids are visiting? Would we as grown-ups not make it inclusive to everyone? And if this was never about the kids, then he shouldn't have made such a big fuss about getting their on time and that he could have left on his own.
This triggered him.. and he stomped out and has been giving me a silent treatment. He said there are a million things he does for the kids, but I remember that one incident where once he wanted something for himself and I made such a big deal about it, and I am still hanging on to it. He said I am minimizing all the good things I do by remembering this incident. He then proceeded to walk out - slept in the guest bedroom and has been giving me a silent treatment. AITAH for bringing up that incident? Does that merit such a stark reaction?
