As a below average IQ person, do your parents or others not trust you to get chores/errands done correctly?

This morning, my parents needed some help with setting up WiFi in a new house. We had received the basic equipment, but the new house appears to be missing some cable/piece of equipment. Thus, my parents needed me to call Spectrum to sort things out. The problem arose when Spectrum tried to promote a new, expensive plan, and I politely told them thanks for the offer, but we're good. My parents thought I would confuse Spectrum, so I had to repeatedly say no changes or increases. My parents also thought I couldn't correctly describe the problem, but I did and it sounds like Spectrum will send a technician to finish the setup. Now, I get that my parents are not happy with my lack of success, but it seems bizarre that my parents don't trust me to handle a relatively simple task. Anyone else experience this?
