Where to store a 12v jump pack?
Just leased a 2025 Ioniq 5 SEL AWD and read about so many people having issues with the 12v battery and ICCU.
I decided while upgrading to a AGM battery is probably not cost effective on a 2 year lease, owning a 12v battery jump pack is the better idea since I get to keep it with me for my next car.
As these things are high-amperage lithium ion batteries, they are potentially dangerous if not stored or used correctly. So I still have a few questions.
After doing much research, I got the Noco Boost Plus GB40. According to the specs, storage temps are between -20C to +50C (-4F to 122F), which is the same as the operating temps.
We can get some extreme temps that can actually touch both ends of those limits, so:
- Where is the best place to store the jump pack in an Ioniq 5?
- How often do I need to top off the jump pack?
I was thinking along the lines of the frunk or glove box since I don't want to deal with a hatch not opening if the 12v is dead, but unsure of the temperatures in there. Does the cover keep the contents clean? I plan to keep the L1 charger and the jump pack there.
As for topping off the jump pack, I figured I would have to since lithium ion batteries tend to self discharge. Also worried how bad it can be for the jump pack itself since storing a lithium battery at full charge is not good for it. While I understand this jump pack is an emergency item so it's made to be sacrificed in that way, what is the useful lifespan of a jump pack when only stored at 100% charged?
The instructions don't give much info at all.
If these things aren't made to last, I wonder if I could have saved some money buying the next best rated, the Gooloo - which is half the price but also seem to give reliable strong power according to many reviews on YouTube.
