A childhood memory I wish I could forget
When I was about 1 1/2 years old my parents put me in a daycare since they both worked. This daycare also had a preschool and I attended from age 3 to 5. After preschool I stayed at the daycare till my mom picked me up.
I remember crying a lot at first then going completely silent that I didn’t speak a single word to anyone there the whole time. And I never smiled with anyone either.
The head of the preschool once told my parents to take me to a doctor because they thought I had a communication problem but my parents didn’t because I was completely normal at home.
Now as an adult, I have social anxiety and really struggle to deal with people. I once asked a psychologist if this could be connected to my childhood and she told me not to think about it like that.
Has anyone else here ever wondered if early childhood environments in Sri Lanka specially in daycares or preschools can leave a lasting impact on our mental health and personality?
