Please, I am begging you, seek out and attend local shows!

Discussion 🗣️

I come to you as a live music fan that wants to see 1) small, independent venues thrive and 2) local bands and smaller touring acts play to the crowd sizes they deserve!

There are somehow simultaneously dozens of posts and comments in this sub about how big concerts are too expensive...and yet the vast majority of the gigs listed in your notes screenshots and on your spreadsheets are of large to very large touring acts playing sold out shows in 2000-70,000 seat venues.

Yet, at the same time...there are hundreds of bar, club, outdoor, etc... shows going on in your cities where fewer than 20 paying customers are showing up. These extremely hardworking and talented bands are absolutely killing it in front of tiny crowds. I've literally been at shows where I was the only person in the room at times.

Most large cities have alt weekly papers or substacks somewhere where you can find a complete listing of dozens of daily gigs. So I offer you this plea and guarantee: Spend 10-20 minutes a week looking at shows in your area on nights you are free. Check out a couple tunes for a band you've never heard of on your streaming platform of choice. Buy a ticket or show up at the door with cash. Bring a friend if you can, but if not, go solo! You'll have a great time, the band(s) will impress you 95 times out of 100, and you'll feel great knowing you're supporting hard working artists that could really use a few extra bucks to help get them to the next gig.
