Genuine question– could someone with a 1.5 GPA get in?
Please don't laugh or make fun of her, she (and our whole family) had a really rough time growing up, and we're all trying our best to heal and start over. Nobody on our side of the family got past their high school diploma, and nobody has ever gotten higher than around a 2.5 GPA. We come from poverty and addiction.
My cousin is looking for a university that offers need-based free tuition, and I told her about my school, GVSU. To my shock, she said she was actually willing to move if she got accepted.
The thing is, she has a high school diploma with a 1.5 GPA. She does show a slight upwards trend in grades, but she does have below a 2.0. She does also have a certification in computer science of some kind from a local community college (yes, accredited). She's only had one job at a supermarket before she had to quit due to being injured.
Because she is turning 25 here soon, I told her that she would be able to go to community college for free, but if she went that route, since GVSU (and most universities) don't offer options for transfers on free tuition, she would have to pay for the last two years. She is fine with this option, but obviously, she would prefer the four years free.
I know GVSU has a 95% acceptance rate. Would she be part of the 5% that get rejected?
