Why are women expected to sacrifice so much?
Spoke to someone from a different city (an hour and half away) for a few weeks. After which we met once briefly. We kept talking for several weeks but he always had a strong excuse for cancelling plans with me (He did visit my city several times for work but didn't meet me). I have a job that I will not get in any other city. I love it and would like to continue there. I have been there for a decade. My working hours are very less. He asked me to leave it and be a housewife in his city, saying he will never be short of money. When I refused he was surprised that I was choosing a career over him (who had by the way just met me once, even though he lives 1.5 hrs away). Why can't some people understand that women don't wish to work just for money? They also need to be available to look after their own ageing parents. He broke up (if we can call it that) with me saying his family believed the long distance would be an impediment and we did not interact for few months. He came back a week ago only to tell him he realised he loved me and apologized for not meeting up earlier. In these AM interactions so many men I've spoken to come back to tell me they can't find a mature enough, level headed woman like me. I asked if he had a plan for us. He said he did. We set up a time to meet and a couple of hours before that he again asked me to leave my job, gaslighting me for choosing a career over a partner. He also wanted me to take over all family responsibilities as they don't want a full time maid and also look after his parents. While I know my responsibilities it looked like I was the one who was being asked to completely change my life. He kept talking about love and emotions but I see that I would only have to make sacrifices - leave everything behind to be with someone who really didn't prove himself. I finally said no. I can't understand the sense of entitlement - how can you ask someone to completely flip while your life gets easier. I feel relieved to an extent, now that it's finally over. Wasted half a year.
