My cheapest pen is genuinely my favorite to use (mini rant)
I have a few fountain pens — a plastic Kaweco, an aluminum piston filler Kaweco, a TWSBI eco, a Pilot VP & Pilot VP decimo.
By FARRR, the pen that just never ever dries out no matter how long I neglect it, writes the most consistently and comfortably in my hand, and feels the most satisfying is the TWSBI eco lmao.
Second place for me would be my piston filler Kaweco. That one dries out (probably bc I keep putting document ink in there), but it feels very comfortable to use, writes smoothly, etc.
There’s just something about the pilot pens that I feel like I am forcing. Like they are lovely objectively, but something is just off.
The decimo is a EF, which I was using all year last year for my hobonichi weeks. It being so thin was perfect for that, but not too usable for my normal journaling in an A6 (original?)
The other pilot was fine for journaling but I would still prefer the TWSBI…
A while ago I dropped the TWSBI though, and it cracked the plastic near the nib, so now every time I write with it, some ink leaks onto my thumb. Im using water based ink in it so it’s not a huge deal, but still a little annoying. The pen is still entirely usable so I don’t want to buy a replacement (but a replacement would probably be cheaper than a repair). Like I know if I got a replacement I’d still keep the original pen around 😅
I think I was hoping that one of the more expensive pens would be the “replacement”, but I guess I need to keep looking for what higher-end pen resembles the Tswbi for the future!
Lmk if anyone has any suggestions.
