Serious question about GIC entrance interview questions. (Content warning in the first line.)

SpoilerPossible trigger

(Content warning: SA)

So I've recently had my first proper appointment with the GIC and one of the questions was about whether or not I'd ever >!been sexually assaulted!<.

I tried to google why on earth this is a reasonable question to be asking (in amongst an already very personal and difficult interview) but all of the results coming up were for helplines and such because of the automatic "uh oh someone searched a scary word" systems that push those kinds of results up the list. I was four pages in and I couldn't find anything actually relevant.

  • Is this a normal question elsewhere?
  • Is this just a medicalised modernisation of the classic "You're only gay 'cause your >!uncle touched you!<" stereotype?
  • What's the actual justification used in the guidelines?

Like as it happens I had several answers to that question and I consider them all fairly tame experiences by the standards set by the world and I was still very shaken up by the time I left. Don't get me wrong, I would have been shaken up by all of the reasonable questions but that just makes it even crazier to me that this question is even on the list. I've already had to literally list everything I hate about myself and all the times growing up I didn't transition when I knew something was up and like... I dunno how to end things. </post>
