Is the Puma Suede Classic dead?

I've bought a pair of these every 2-3 years for the last 15 years or so, and less frequently before then.

The latest pair I picked up do not have a suede formstrip (just looked that word up) and feel waaay inferior to previous generations. I thought they were fake at first but all the puma websites show the same.

Disappointing, I hope they bring the suede back.
