Hoodie Full Of Ghosts

Poem

We met once, and in that one breath of time you kissed me in secret, like I was a sin you couldn’t bear to confess.

You hid me in shadows, but I still let you in. And when you ran— like the coward you swore you weren’t— you shattered something I can’t piece together.

You’ve left more than once, yet always found the way back. I don’t know if you will this time. Maybe I don’t want you to. Maybe I do.

Your brown eyes— home and death tied together in one unblinking stare. Your lips tasted of the weed you smoked and the lies you told. Your touch was lightning, something I admired from afar and died from up close.

You had a boyfriend, even when you kissed me. I should hate you only— but my love for you has claws that dig deeper than my rage. Every heartbeat spells your name, and I curse it for doing so.

The day we met, you gave me your hoodie. I gave you mine. I wear yours daily, its threads still clinging to the ghost of your scent. It’s fading now— like the taste of your lips on mine— but your eyes still haunt me. So does your touch.

And I wonder if you wear my hoodie the way I wear yours— or if you’ve buried it, the way you buried me.
