HELP, I'M 15F and him 15M broke up not because we wanted, but because we needed to.
Okay, guys, please help (sorry, my English isn’t as good as I wish it was). We’ve known each other for like 3 years, been good friends for 2 years, and dated for 9 months. Everything was perfect — like, yeah, perfect. We had small arguments, but I always thought (and told him) that’s normal. He’s my first boyfriend; I’m not his first. But after the breakup, he told me that I was the FIRST real girlfriend he ever had. So, we’re teenagers, and this school year we’re both going to different new schools. My main focus will be studying, because I got accepted into a really, really good school. His goals are more in sports.(And our future needs to be in the first place) In the middle of July, I stayed with him and his family for 4 days at their summer home. ALL WAS PERFECTTT. But one day after that, he called me and said: "Darija, I don’t know what to do." <.....> "I don’t want this, but I think it’s best for us." He told me he had been thinking about it for 2 weeks. His reasons were: • "I won’t have time for you the way I want to." (He’s planning to train 6 times a week, and one day a week he goes to his dad’s, so the timing will be really bad for us.) • "I think you should find someone better." (I know it sounds basic, but trust me — he really has self-esteem issues.) • "I feel so bad. I know you won’t cheat, but the thought eats me up inside." (He lost his virĢ&nity to a girl who, after that, turned out to be cheating on him.) • Continuing from #3: "I need some space." But not in the usual way. He means space to not think about me — (DON’T JUDGE HIM) — he’s always thinking about whether I might cheat, or do something reckless (I like THAT a lot), or just that something might happen to me and he wouldn’t be able to help. That kind of fear.
We’re friends now, BUT we agreed to wait until the end of September or the beginning of October — once our schedules are settled — and then we’ll see if we still have time for each other. The problem is, we used to go to the same school and saw each other every day. Now, it’s going to be really hard to see each other even once every two weeks. I know a lot of couples only see each other on weekends, but for us it’ll be much harder because of all the changes. I know he loves me — I’m sure of it. And I love him. It’s really hard. I just can’t let him go. He wasn’t just a boyfriend — he was my best friend. I also lost my virĢ$nity to him. I gave him my first kiss, my first everything. And now I just physically can’t let it go. I don’t know what to think. I know we’re teenagers, but I’ve seen many couples like us who were actually childish. And I’m not even talking about $ĕX — I mean just really immature. We both are more mature than our age, and I say that with confirmation from doctors. I want us to get back together. He literally said to me, "I’m already regretting it." But we can’t just come back right away. Please tell me what you think. And maybe you went through this. Can I give our relationship a hope ? P.S. Some reasons were edited a bit by me so they’d be understandable to people who don’t know him, but that’s roughly what he meant. P.S.S. We have the same friend group, so after the breakup, we met twice( it was strange). And tomorrow, I might go see him alone for the first time since the breakup. He also told me that he really wants us to work out, but I think he’ll be scared for us to be together a second time. Like, the more I think about it, the more scared I get. I mean — what would it even look like? We’re not planning a "no contact" period. We’re texting and calling each other. Yeah, he even called me yesterday after we hadn’t spoken for two days. Tomorrow, I’m going to disappear from all social life to be with myself — and to see what he’ll do. I know it’s manipulative, but I don’t know what else to do right now. P.S.S.S. BTW, 8/5 would’ve been our 9-month anniversary... so yeah. Sad.
