Just picked up month #2 prescription and paid $0

The cost of this med is high and I'm happy I have good insurance to help cover it.

My medical insurance is Anthem Blue Cross, but they use CVS/Caremark as the pharmacy benefit manager. According to my prescription drug plan, my out of pocket maximum for me as an individual is $1500 a year. I called CVS/Caremark and confirmed that and how the OOP max would work in the context of this medication. They confirmed that once I had paid $1500 in total for ALL prescriptions (I also have HRT, thyroid, and eye meds I use every day) that I won't have pay anything for Wegovy.

So, I started on .25 in July. I take my fourth shot tonight, and submitted a request to get one month's supply of .5 that I will start next week.

I still wasn't 100% sure what cost I would have to pay today when I picked up my Wegovy prescription for the next month, but I paid...nothing! Not one cent! And all the rest of my prescriptions will also cost me $0 for the rest of this calendar year.

Of course, next January my OOP will reset and I will need to pay quite a bit for my first month or so of Wegovy, but it's nice to know that the information I received is accurate.

For those of you with medical insurance, check into your pharmacy benefits to see what your out of pocket maximum is for the year. You still have to clear the hurdle of getting a physician's authorization and script, but if you have a BMI in the obesity range that should quality you.
