How do you build powerful communication skills?

I just feel like shyness and not asking questions kills opportunities in life. Being insecure or naive isn't going to get you anywhere in life. I feel like people who break that barrier of whatever is holding them back is the way a person really progress in life. I know my insecurities is lack of communication skills. I barely try to get outside my comfort zone. I don't understand how to problem solve a situation. How to handle a uncomfortable situation. And people really do notice when you are quiet
