MVP & Chest Pain After Weightlifting
Hey everyone,
I was diagnosed with a very mild case of Mitral Valve Prolapse (MVP) when I was 15. I'm now a 25-year-old woman. I've been working out consistently for about a year. I started with CrossFit (not super intense workouts) and then transitioned to a regular gym.
Recently, when I started lifting heavier weights (for example: 80kg leg press, 80kg hip thrust) or increasing my gym frequency, I began experiencing mild chest pain and a feeling of "something sitting" in my chest. Key details about the symptoms:
Timing: They start 6-8 hours after my workouts.
Duration:They last for 2-3 weeks (during which I usually stop going to the gym).
Trigger:Sometimes the pain seems linked to moving my arms.
I'm struggling to understand if these symptoms are directly related to my MVP or something else entirely. Cardiologists have advised me to stick to lifting only 10-20 kgs. However, from what I've read (research), mild MVP generally shouldn't restrict lifting like this – and honestly, I don't feel like 80kg is extremely heavy for exercises like leg press or hip thrust. Has anyone else with MVP experienced similar delayed chest pain or pressure after weightlifting, especially when increasing intensity?Any insights, similar experiences, or advice would be really appreciated!
