Self-protection can be difficult with ADHD

Tips/Suggestions

guys! Since I struggle a lot with impulsivity and procrastination, which have at some moments led me to bad physical health, I decided to share some tips and I hope some of you find it useful!

To begin with, I know how difficult can impulsivity and procrastination be, I deeply understand. However, in some situations, which regard health and safety, it is absolutely needed to be mindful of these approaches and not act accordingly.

Those situations are kind of specific for me, so sorry if it hasn't resonated with you.

• When you go somewhere and there is a risk to become cold or windy there, always make sure to double-check and look into your surroundings - is the coat/jacket prepared?

• I know it can be scary, but if you have flu symptoms, never postpone calling your doctor and getting treatment.

• When you get your medicines prescribed, please always take them and in the correct time. Never miss out on a medicine. I know it can be tedious, especially when they are a lot, but drinking them in a certain time is critically important.

• While being sick, especially on vacation, never drink cold beverages. I once got an impulsive idea to get iced alcoholic beverages while almost recovering on a vacation, and regretted it later. I knew something felt wrong before I did it, but I was like "I am already heading to the bar, so..."

• Regarding the previous bullet, if you make an impulsive decision and later on it feels wrong while you are still doing it, know that your boundaries are valid and that you can always end it. Breathe and be mindful or your surroundings so you have better insight. Just because you have jumped into something, doesn't mean you have to continue it, although doing so feels off and energy-consuming.

• Even if you feel better during a flu, never stop taking your meds before the time your doctor has prescribed. The symptoms quickly return.

• If you have taken medication and feel worse, immediately call your doctor!

Stay safe guys! :)
