I had this crush on a guy since for a really long time, we were neighbors, my country is a very conservative especially the city I live in, So is family, relationship outside of marriage is a BIG NO, it's either marriage or nothing. So we’re very restricted in what we can do. That makes even the smallest moments feel so huge.

I liked him because I thought he liked me. Obviously he couldn't do any moves on me or ask for my hand cuz we're both students, He was always in my path, everywhere I went I would see him, and he’d look at me and smile. Where I live, you don’t just smile at the opposite gender unless you have something for them, it’s not out of kindness, nor politeness.

Almost all my friends know about him and they admitted it's obvious how he felt about me, I’d always share these interactions them. One of those friends is a childhood friendand a cousin, she’s always been competitive with me. If I mention I liked a certain writer, the next day she’d suddenly love that writer too and tell everyone about it. Annoying? Yes. But I at that time I didn't mind.

Then one day, she told me — in great detail — that my crush had been staring at her. Not just looking, but intensely looking. She went on and on about it, she wanted me to know.

I felt betrayed by her… I felt like the guy might be just a player, even tho.. me and everyone know damn well he's a very respectable guy. All the feelings I had for him just vanished. and I’ve been keeping my distance from her too.
