The “assumption” in law of assumption

Tips & Techniques

A lot of people go by the wrong definition of assumption and it’s clear they haven’t acquainted themselves with Neville’s teachings, only a bastardized off-shoot from people parroting misinterpretations.

Assumption is not an idea you suppose, but taking on, or assuming, an identity. Dictionary definitions of “assume” include 1. to suppose to be the case, without proof (which is the typical erroneous interpretation), and 2. to take on a specified quality, appearance, or extent (the actual meaning in LOA).

Neville did not teach that you can simply assume whatever belief you want about yourself, other people or the world and reality will follow suit. He taught that you assume the identity of an individual for which this fact is true. You walk as if it is true, not simply believe it is true.

In practice, these can often look quite similar, and it’s why people can still get results despite operating under an incorrect framework of the law. You can assume you never have to worry about bills and/or assume the identity or state of an individual who never has to worry about bills. But if you are only doing the former, without a full shift in identity, it’s why you’re stuck with half-successes.

If you believe your ex misses you and wants you back, but still maintain the identity of someone who isn’t chosen or wanted or is desperate, guess which will win? If you wish to believe money always comes easily to you, but refuse to tip properly or be generous, you haven’t fully assumed the identity of someone who always receives money easily, because your actions do not follow in accordance.

As another example, if you want to manifest more friends, and you believe people want to be friends with you or that you have lots of friends, but still operate as someone that doesn’t put his or her self out there, doesn’t try to get to know others, expects to be let down, forgotten, or disregarded, or act in dishonest or flaky ways, you haven’t assumed the identity of someone that people want to be friends with.

A belief is a singular thought that can exist in isolation whereas assuming an identity is an all-encompassing shift in thoughts, feelings, inclinations, beliefs, reactions, desires, and behaviors. You cannot simply believe you are wealthy, you must think, feel, respond and behave as if you are wealthy. It does not, and should not, be to the point of detrimental delusion such that you splurge on luxury items leaving you without money to pay rent. But you should still carry yourself as someone that is wealthy.

Neville did not delusionally believe he was in Barbados, he assumed the identity of someone who is in Barbados.

Assuming a belief may feel restrictive and challenging because it involves believing in a fact that materially is not true. But assuming an identity is expansive and can be done in an entirely truthful way. You can walk as someone that has all of their desires, without having to convince yourself that your ex is actually waiting for you at home or that there is a million dollars in your bank account.

You change yourself, not the mirror. You change yourself, you do not convince yourself the mirror shows something different than what you currently are.

Taking on a belief, rather than the whole identity that follows, is like having one foot in, one foot out, and wondering why nothing is changing. Nothing changes until you do!
