Attorney Exam - Character and Fitness

I took the CA bar back in 2012 as an attorney (but not the attorney exam) and my character and fitness application was approved but I failed the exam. I just took the attorney exam again and am wondering if I need to submit another character and fitness application and pay the $800+ fee. I’ve been emailing and calling to no avail. Anyone have a read on this?
