Gear Shifting 101

Hey,

I'm a noob who just recently got into cycling and commuting. I have a Trek FX 2 Disc Gen 3, which has a 2x9 drivetrain.

Can you guys provide me some tips of shifting gears? For example, things like what NOT to do can help drastically.
