Thoughts on tire plugs? Worth patching too?

Hi all, I had a puncture in my tire the other day close to the center, two small holes next to each other from a large staple. I used a standard rope plug to patch it up and it hasn't leaked any air, what's everyone's opinions on this? Ive seen people saying to never ride on a plug and many others saying they've ran through multiple plugged tires just fine. I was considering taking the tire off and putting a patch on the inside as well as an extra safety method, but is it even worth it? Any feedback is apricated!
