AITA for "ignoring" my father?
(English is not my first language)
My dad works in another city, so he spends half the month away and the other half at home. This week, I started college, and I was feeling very anxious and stressed about this new phase. My sister and brother-in-law were helping me a lot, distracting me, and supporting me emotionally. I really wanted to talk to my dad about it, but I ended up not having time. I was away from home almost the entire time, taking care of some things.
Important information: My phone has a problem where it doesn't receive calls properly. When someone calls me, the phone doesn't ring, nor does the call appear on the screen. Then, it simply says "missed call." My parents used to think I was just ignoring calls, until they saw it happen in person and realized the problem is real. We still don't know if it's the SIM card or the device.
On Sunday, I was out and about and got home late. My dad called me minutes after I got home. As usual, I didn't get the call. But literally a minute later, I saw the missed call and called back. I also sent a few messages explaining that I didn't get the call because of a problem with my phone. He didn't answer and didn't respond.
About an hour later, my mom came to me, furious, saying I'd "ignored" my dad's call. I explained what had happened and even handed her my phone, showing her the time of the call and the messages. Even so, she said my dad had spoken to her as if I were purposefully avoiding him. I even sent more messages to explain again, and still, he ignored me.
Today is Tuesday, and he still hasn't responded. This made me very upset because I wanted his support as I started college. When I mentioned this to my mom, she said I had no right to be upset, that my dad was the one hurting, and that I should go after him and apologize. She even called me an idiot.
My sister overheard the conversation, took my side, and argued with my mom, defending me. Now I'm feeling incredibly confused. Should I really go after my dad and apologize again, even after explaining everything?
AITA for being upset with my dad even after trying to resolve the misunderstanding?
