Has anyone renewed a Moroccan passport while in the USA?

Surely I don't have to travel to Washington/NY/Florida just to renew a passport, right? Right? (I live in California)

Info on official websites is impossibly vague. Info from searching this website is equally vague. No one at the consulate is responding to my messages. Can someone with personal experience tell me what I have to do?
