Back at the game after long pause. How can I change my clothes but keep stats?

So back to do Phantom Liberty, but what I remembered from the base games was that clothes losed their stat boost etc after a patch(?) But now I have a stupid looking helmet and a west with + 20 to armour. Can I transmog them somehow?
