hip arthroscopy and femoral osteotomy?
Long story short, I just saw my doctor and he says that he thinks a femoral osteotomy to fix my femoral anteversion will take away the majority of my pain. He looked at my MRI and my labrum is definitely irritated, but the tear is small (if even existent). He has left the option of opting into the hip arthroscopy up to me and he had no suggestion. I don’t know if I should opt into the arthroscopy - I want my pain to go away for good but I’m scared I’ll develop more problems or scar tissue.
I am 17 years old and will go into college one year from now. If I need to get the arthroscopy later, it’ll be really hard to balance PT, college, and being away from home. Does anyone have any advice? I’m genuinely torn. Originally posted to r/HipImpingement and was recommended to cross post here.
For context, this surgeon is actually kind of my second opinion: my original doctor (Dr. N) is the one that referred me to my current doctor (Dr. W) for the femoral anteversion. Dr. N said that he would do the arthroscopy but he wanted to get Dr. W’s opinion. If I were to opt into both, Dr. N would do the arthroscopy one week before the osteotomy.
