Post-stent : constant urge to pee, no end in sight

Question/ Request for advice

Hey everyone,

I had a ureteroscopy and a JJ stent put in on July 4th for a 6mm kidney stone. The stone was causing some pain, so they went in and broke it up.

About a week later, I started getting the feeling of needing to pee all the time, even if it was just a little bit. Since it was the weekend, I went to the ER. Blood and urine tests were fine, but they gave me nitrofurantoin just in case it was a UTI. Took it for a week, did absolutely nothing. And since then, I’ve had some light leaking too which I never had before.

Talked to my doc and they decided to take the stent out 2 weeks early (was supposed to keep it for a month). Removal was fine , next few days the pain was the worst but didn’t last too long thankfully. What did stay though is the constant urge to pee.

It’s been over 3 weeks,. I’m basically stuck at home and doing full remote work because I can’t go anywhere without needing a bathroom nearby. My doc gave me solifenacin a week ago but I’m not seeing much improvement.it seems to help a little with flow. I still feel like I have to go all the time, even if it’s barely anything and still have some leaking. There’s still some discomfort in my bladder when I pee, and sometimes I get burning sensations that are only relieved by drinking water or urinating again. That part is pretty recent.

It’s been a full month since the surgery and I’m starting to feel really hopeless. I’d love to hear from anyone who’s been through something similar, how long did it take to get better? The longer this lasts, the more I worry that it might become a chronic condition.

I had a JJ stent two years ago (no ureteroscopy that time), and it was totally fine. Kept it for a month, no issues. But this time, it’s been a nightmare.

Would really appreciate hearing from anyone who's been through something similar 🙏
