I (26F) met a nice guy (26M) but I don't know if there is something more between us.

For a while now, I've been texting with a guy who's my age (we're both 26, but we have rather unique professional and health situations). We met on Facebook and it turned out we've many common interests, similar tastes, senses of humor, views on important matters, sensitivities, and thoughts on serious topics, and somewhat similar family and health experiences.

We exchange memes, write about important matters, and share more casual ones. He tells me about difficult things from his past that he doesn't share with anyone else (I've concluded he's a very private person), confides in me about his feelings (for example, that he was upset at work), or I'm the first to hear about various little things, like his attempts to cook a dish or things from his work. He also texts me at night when he can't sleep, even when he's at the movies, recording cute animals he's seen especially for me, or searching for memes. He wrote that he'd love to watch "Star Wars" with me again, adding a heart to it (I started watching it on his recommendation), and he said he wouldn't mind me asking a lot of questions when I asked him about it. He asked with obvious concern about my health situation (I'm currently being diagnosed with a chronic illness), wondered what happened when I wasn't available on Messenger for a long time, and expressed hope that one day he might teach me how to play computer games (I can't, but I'd love to learn). I admit that I once looked through his activity in a certain Facebook group, and in one of the comments, he said that his dream would be to teach it to his girlfriend.

We live 200 km apart, he in a big city, where I often go to the doctor. After a week, he suggested we meet up because I was going for tests, but I declined because it was too early for me and I was with family who had their own plans. Then he suggested that when he might find a room in two months (he currently lives with roommates), I could come visit him for a longer stay (he made it clear he would respect my boundaries).

Ultimately, we agreed to meet for a day in a few weeks.

The problem is that he doesn't yet know what the future holds. His contract might not be renewed, and he'll have to return to his hometown in the southern part of our country (I live further north), at least while his abusive mother is away.

We started talking seriously, and I admitted that the distance might be a bit more of a hindrance for me. He said the distance wasn't so bad, but also that for him, our relationship was a "whatever will be" kind of thing, because for now, he was focused on survival, more mundane things, and couldn't promise me anything. I should emphasize that his words sounded much warmer and more caring, but I'm just summarizing.

I respect his honesty and caring, and I appreciate that he doesn't want to make empty promises. I also understand the feeling of being in a state of limbo. Especially since I'm not looking for a relationship by force – I'm currently in therapy, have a lot of relationship trauma, and a precarious health situation. This kind of thing, without pressure, doesn't bother me; in fact, declarations might be embarrassing for me right now.

But I feel like there's something between us. So I'd like to ask you what you think. Is there a chance for a future when we both get our lives back on track?

I would be grateful for your opinion!

P.S. He's had no experience with girls before, and I'm his first "crush" (and probably his first close woman who isn't a friend's girlfriend), so he often seems a bit awkward and shy (and surprised that a girl likes him). On top of that, he has ADHD. This is also the first time for me (it's the same as for him - I was sick a lot during most of my youth), but I think I have a bit more courage and intuition (sometimes I need to tell him something directly).
