Giardia/Kitten
Hello!
Interested in some thoughts on a Giardia test result that I just received.
Here's the timeline -
- 6/3 - rescue 12 week old kitten
- 6/3-6/22 (little less than 3 weeks) - kitten in unfinished, but clean basement being socialized enough to get him to the vet
- 6/22 - moved upstairs to be isolated in my office
- 6/24 - vet visit, dose of Strongid, fecal test
- 6/26 - test results indicate roundworm and hookworm; treat with Panacur
- 7/17 (3 weeks later) - second dose of Panacur
- 8/5 (little less than 3 weeks) - retest shows roundworm and hookworm have cleared, but has Giardia
Now, I can't absolutely guarantee that my basement didn't have some random Giardia cysts that infected him right before his first fecal and therefore didn't show on the test, but I don't think it's likely. It's even less likely that he was exposed in my office.
He has not and does not have diarrhea.
The vet tech said the first results were negative and the second results said "many". Which seems to indicate that it was actually tested for both time.
Does this make sense? Should I ask for a retest?
Appreciate any thoughts or insights - thanks so much!
