why are russell groups seen as better

got into an argument with somebody recently and she called me thick for going to reading uni because she goes to sheffield. reading was my first choice and i never applied to sheffield and we both do non-stem degrees so i don’t really understand? their world rankings aren’t significantly different, so what advantages is she gonna get from graduating that i won’t?
