my marvel ratings as a complete newbie that went in blind

Discussion

(This includes Fantastic Four spoilers.)

Context: I’ve seen Black Panther, Guardians of the Galaxy and a few other Marvel films years ago but I was 10-12 when these released, so I don’t have much memory of them and won’t include them here as such.

I started getting into Marvel with my boyfriend about a month or two ago, he started me off in chronological order but sometimes we get off-track (or he’ll skip over things if they can be explained easily and watched later in exchange something more important, i.e the Hulk movies being skipped).

I decided to watch everything so far with basically ZERO input from fandom discourse in order to avoid spoilers, but also to go in with an open unbiased mind on what people liked and didn’t like. I’m bad at rating things on a scale so if some of these are oddly rated just give me some leeway. Anyway, here are my short thoughts!

Side note: I don’t think there’s much that I didn’t like, so if my review is very short it probably just didn’t have much worth noting to me.

Spider-Man (2002): it was fairly scary to me for some reason but i enjoyed it overall! 6/10

Iron Man (2008): this was the second marvel film i watched and i really liked it, especially because of Tony’s character and i like Pepper a lot too. 6.5/10

Captain America: The First Avenger (2011): a BIG favorite, I love Captain America so much and completely loved his character. 8/10

The Avengers (2012): Honestly don’t remember much of this movie LOL but I did like seeing all the characters together. 7/10

The Amazing Spider-Man (2012): My least favorite Spider-Man I fear, I found him kind of annoying 😭 5/10

Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014): All-time favorite I love Bucky so so so so so much. Probably the movie that went from me passively watching the movies to becoming a fan. 10/10

Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015): Not super super memorable to me, I liked seeing Wanda and Quicksilver though. It also made me start liking Tony a little less. 7/10

Ant-Man (2015): Including this in case anyone asks— I didn’t watch it because I have a phobia of ants. My boyfriend thought I was being overdramatic until we watched the trailer, and lo-and-behold I was terrified. 😅

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018): Loved it long long before I got into Marvel. 10/10.

Avengers: Infinity War (2018): Was very sad about Loki and Heimdall :( of course I knew Tony died given that it’s been like seven years since this movie released but I was pretty surprised they killed Natasha too. I was also sad Bucky got blipped. I liked all of the fight scenes and stuff a lot too. It probably would have hit harder if I was a long-time Marvel fan, but I pretty much just saw it as another movie. 8/10

Venom (2018): I loved it but I wished the CEO lived because his experiments were actually really interesting to me! Overall it was cool to see the idea of symbiotes, their different personalities and relationships with their hosts. I really like Eddie and Venom together. 7/10

Captain Marvel (2019): The first ever Marvel movie I watched with my boyfriend, honestly don’t remember much of it as it was like 2am and he was begging me to give Marvel a shot 😭 10/10 for Goose tho, 6/10 overall

Avengers: Endgame (2019): I liked the time-travel plot a lot. I was also very happy that Rogers got to live out the rest of his life through it :] it was a cool story to see executed. 7/10

Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019): My second favorite Spider-Man, I love MJ and Peter’s relationship a lot, it’s very adorable. I do wish they discussed the blipping more (especially little things like the drinking age and whatnot) 8/10

WandaVision (2021): I looooved this show a ton. The set design and costume designs were amazing and the plot was pristine. I have zero criticisms really. 10/10

Loki Season 1 (2021): Enjoyed it, but it wasn’t super super memorable for me. I didn’t feel any inclination to watch the second season, and thus still haven’t. 6.5/10

Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021): I liked the silly fun of this movie, it was fairly average from an unbiased perspective but I love funny movies so I didn’t mind much. 5/10

Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021): Was probably super awesome for people who have been watching / reading Marvel several for years, but like others this was a “just another movie” experience for me. However, the ending had me hooked and I hate that I got into Marvel just in time to not know the answers of what happens next lmao. 7.5/10

Moon Knight (2022): This was the first Marvel show I ever watched and another big favorite! I love the realistic representation of DID and Steven and Marc are some of my favorite characters as well. 9/10

Ms Marvel (2022): Haven’t finished it yet, but I really love it!! Kamala is my all-time (second) favorite character ever. She really reminds me of myself and I love her powers too. I like how the show is chill enough to just watch without having to take a bunch of mental notes on lore and stuff. 8/10

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022): I liked it a lot! It was a very fun watch. Also love that Megan is in it considering she’s a nerd (positively), I could only imagine how happy she was to be in the show :D it was also cool to see the effects of Hulk blood on others. I do wish it was longer. 7/10 (in terms of comedy, personal enjoyment and entertainment)

The Marvels (2023): As said, I adore Kamala, so I really liked this movie too! The dynamic between the Marvels was very cute. 8/10

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023): Watched when it came out years ago, loved it. 10/10

Agatha All Along: My biggest favorite show so far. The way everything clicked at the end with the huge “OHHHHH” moment was very satisfying for me. Kept thinking about it all day after I finished it + could not get the Ballad of the Witches Road out of my head 😭 also I love Joe Locke soo much. This is definitely something I would watch and enjoy if I wasn’t into Marvel. The acting, set design, plot.. everything was perfect. 11/10

Thunderbolts (2025): My favorite movie, I love found family tropes + BUCKY so I was very pleased with it all. I tend to relate to the rougher Marvel characters more, so seeing a group of misfits together was peak. 11/10

The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025): I liked it, it was the first Marvel movie I’ve seen in theaters which was awesome! It wasn’t mind-blowingly amazing to me but it was cute and wholesome so I didn’t mind. Dr. Doom with the kid at the end was very shocking! 9/10
