Recommendation for work laptop which can run games on a 49" screen please.

Recommendation

Hello,

I am looking for a laptop which will be used predominantly for work (office), but with scope for gaming on good settings with good FPS etc. Mostly it will be at home running a 49 inch ultrawide and maybe an additional smaller screen alongside that.

When it goes out and about it will really only be for work and it needs to not look too much like a gaming laptop (i.e. not covered in flashing bits or too much design). 16 Inch is preference. It will be used a lot and needs to be reliable so decent build quality is up on the list. A slim profile would be nice but not that important so that isn't something I would want to spend substantially more on (e.g. the Razor 16).

As to why I don't just get a decent gaming PC and a functional work laptop, I don't strictly need a PC at the moment, but I do need a laptop for when I am out and about, so if I am buying one I may as well cover both angles and have the benefit of a single device for everything, if that is viable.

I have two questions I would be grateful for help on:

  1. Is that stupid? Do people use gaming laptops without the screen and as more of a portable PC? Given the emphasis retailers place on the screen specs I am feeling like it isn't; then

  2. If it isn't stupid, does anyone have any recommendation please? Presumably something with a not-brilliant screen but good specs otherwise so I am not spending money on something I don't need.

Budget is roughly £1,000.00 - £2,000.00, but if there are suggestions above and below that those are fine. I would add that I am not a serious gamer. I rarely get chance to but I want to enjoy it when I do. Running next years games at a playable framerate at say 90% towards max setting will do me fine.

Thank you,
