Is there any point in reporting sexual assault 10 months after it happened? (England)
My ex boyfriend sexually assaulted me Halloween last year. I was blackout drunk, and only knew it had happened because of tenderness in the morning and feeling that he had finished inside of me.
I have 2 audio recordings of us talking about it that I recorded in secret. One the morning after, one two weeks later.
At least one of my friends saw the state I was in before he took me home. She saw that I was drooling on myself and couldn't keep my head up.
I also still have the text messages he sent off of my phone (to my friend) before taking me home. He wrote in full, coherent sentences with no spelling mistakes.
But, I don't know if it would be worth reporting.
- He could just say that he was just as drunk as I was. It's what he said to me anyways. I know he wasn't, but I have no proof of this. -There isn't any actual evidence that I was intoxicated to the point of not being able to consent. -Maybe, if I'd have reported it at the time, our uber driver could have been a witness to the condition I was in. But with it being so long ago, I very much doubt he'd remember.
I don't want to have to go through the trauma of reliving it all with police and courts if there isn't a good chance he will be convicted. So, do you think it'd be worth it?
