I’m a beginner crocheter! I created this blanket for my sister’s birthday! Here is the description of the blanket with some attached photos. Let me know what you think!

The Connecticut Waves Blanket

Designed and created by Patrick G.

A love letter to shoreline memory and coastal soul, The Connecticut Waves Blanket is a textured, immersive journey along the Long Island Sound — a place where the sea breathes in rhythm with the heart.

Crafted with rich, velvety super bulky chenille in a deep seaweed green, this blanket tells a visual story in stitches. Each section evokes a passage through the shoreline, beginning with rolling front post double crochet ridges that mimic the movement of ocean waves tangled with seaweed, undulating with texture and depth.

As the blanket unfolds, the ridges give way to a stretch of griddle stitch, representing the lull of low tide — that tranquil space where you can see the sand just beneath the water, soft and still. This calm moment shifts into a final wave before reaching the dry edge of the shore.

To evoke that transition from sea to land, the next section is made with half double crochet in the back loop only, a soft, wind-swept sand texture that gently leads to the final flourish: scattered shell stitches, interwoven with hdc to resemble seashells embedded in warm, sun-drenched sand.

Turned horizontally, the blanket resembles a walk parallel to the shore, each section a new discovery — from deep sea to shallow tide, from damp sand to dry beach, ending in a scattered collection of treasures along the edge.

This piece was lovingly created as a gift — a tactile memory, woven with intention, reflection, and place. Finished in time for a visit to Connecticut, where it was always meant to belong.
