Advice to fix dent in rubberwood top?

Product Q&A

Just got my E7 Pro and it was damaged in shipping (big gash in the box with a corresponding dent on the tabletop). Unfortunately, I didn't realize until after I had already built the thing since you build it upside down.

I don't really care other than that it's right where I would write on paper, so it's annoying. Flexispot offered to replace the top, but the faff of unscrewing the top and rebuilding it is a bit too much (and the included screwdriver is a bit small so I'm worried that I'll strip the screws in the process). I thought maybe I could fill the dent with epoxy and sand it with super fine sandpaper? But I'm worried that would damage the finish of the table surrounding the dent. Does anyone have advice on how to pull it off cleanly (but cheaply, with minimal tools)?
