What were/are some of your bizarre hallucinations and delusions?
Just curious. I know this question has been asked before, but hey it’s an interesting subject to revisit. And I’m curious to know if anyone else has experienced the same ones as me!
Here’s some of my delusions:
I thought birds were out to kill me. Every chirp would make me feel like my life was in legit danger. I’d sit outside for all of one minute, hear a bird chirp, then run back inside terrified out of my mind. I didn’t exercise outdoors that much during that time.
I thought the government was out to kidnap me. I was on high fucking alert for black SUVs because who knows why. I’m not sure why government delusions are so popular with schizophrenia but eh, it’s entertaining I guess.
I thought I could control kitchen appliances with my mind. If the oven clock switched when I was looking, I naturally assumed I was God.
I thought I was a superhero. Not sure what superhero skills I thought I had, but I was 100% convinced I was a superhero of some sort.
I thought I could control street lights.
I thought my bedside lamps were evil and out to kill me. I could NOT fall asleep with them in the room so I took all the bedside lamps and shut them in the guest bedroom.
I thought the ER staff was conspiring against me. This was always a one-way ticket to the psych ward, go me.
I thought as soon as the sun went down, evil would rise. Cue me being terrified out of my MIND every evening until I got on meds. And I don’t mean a cutesy kind of scared; I was so incredibly scared I thought I was going to give myself a heart attack from the level of stress and fear I endured every night.
I thought strawberries were out to murder me. And I love strawberries. :(
I thought anything in the shape of a circle was out to get me.
I thought my tv remote was spying on me.
I thought I was a criminal wanted by the feds. Cue me (who’s never shop-lifted so much as a paper clip in my entire life) crying for hours whilst looking up jail sentences for robbery and blubbering to my mom asking her if she’d visit me in jail.
I thought my brother wanted to secretly murder me so I deleted his number. But I don’t have a brother?? I still don’t know whose number I deleted.
And here are some of my hallucinations:
I had a clown that appeared in my house. Sometimes he would poke his head around the corner and stare at me. But he’d mostly be upstairs at night and watch me as I’d try to fall asleep. Creepy, yes, but I’m just glad I’m not afraid of clowns.
I’d see people’s faces turn into blurs. Imagine going grocery shopping and everyone’s faces are complete blurs of their skin colour. No eyes, no noses, no mouths, just a swirl of one colour.
I’d see portals into other worlds. This was one of my more milder hallucinations.
I’d see big fat spiders drop in front of my face. I would usually bat them away with my hand, but I once threw my phone at one much to the alarm of my friend because I obviously threw my phone at nothing.
I’d read books and different words would appear that would make no sense. I’d blink, look away, then look back and read the actual words on the page.
I could feel a demon wrap itself around my neck.
I could feel a demon stand behind me and blow softly on the back of my neck. The sensation of its breath on the back of my neck was unnerving enough, but it was this unworldly feeling of pure evil right behind me that still makes me shudder when I think about it.
I could feel bugs in my hair, on my body, and in my bed.
I would feel people yanking on my ankles as I walked. So basically to anyone else watching, it would look like I was tripping over air.
I would hear people in my house that didn’t belong there. Sounds like footsteps, chairs moving, doors opening and closing. Always when I was alone. It was like living in a haunted house.
I’d have voices that say stupid shit. And I’d have voices that would make it sound as if someone else was talking shit about me, but if I looked at them they weren’t moving their mouths. I’d have other voices constantly shush me or try tell me to shut up.
Soooo yea. Those are some of my most memorable. I didn’t list all of them because that would fill a fucking book.
