Laptop or IPad

Basically, I want to buy an IPad Air 13inch because I’m planning on giving my current laptop to my dad. Is it worth buying the iPad or should I just buy another laptop? (I have an all in one family computer that I can use aswell). I plan on studying a maths degree in the future.
