Are all Tech professionals doomed?

I work in QA Testing and have been for the last 10 years. My background is in Computer Science. Lately I’ve been upskilling, learning how to develop ML models, test them etc. I’ve pretty much treated it as a whole new degree but with all the latest tech and tools. I’ve been using GPT to accelerate my learning.

What I’ve come to realise is that GPT is powerful very very powerful. I was first under the impression that it’s QA Engineers that will be extinct in the next 1-2 years with things like Playwright MCP GPT taking over test automation and going as far to merge LLM with Cypress that is capable of learning your app and the cypress api.

I used GPT and found that it’s capable of building an entire AI, test it, create scripts to deploy it and even embed security in it. This is today in 2025. Where is this going to be in 2030? All it needs is an intelligent Agent and you’ve got yourself a super engineer who can do it all. So this poses a very powerful question are we as tech professionals heading towards complete disaster where we essentially become obsolete?

I get that LLM’s don’t understand business context, that’s fair enough. But who’s to say companies don’t shift to a model where they have a handful of people to validate at different stages and the rest are just not needed. Where we have a 6 person Agile team today that becomes a 2 person team tomorrow.

This is honestly very concerning, it gives me constant headaches and keeps me up at night, we spent years studying CS, thousands on student loans and now this thing comes along and we are left holding nothing absolutely nothing.

I am yet to see many new roles, the only new role I’ve seen is ML Engineer and most of those require PhD level education or at the very least masters degree and very strong maths skills. I’ve seen a few AI testing roles but I think it was just a couple of them. So it’s clearly that ai is not making enough new roles as it was once made it out it would.

What is your take on this? Do you not see a future where this just ends up being the end of us?
