UK Student – NCAA Soccer Eligibility & Academic Path Advice Needed

Hey everyone, I’m a 19-year-old student currently studying Computing at a university in the UK, but I’m seriously considering transferring to the U.S. to play college soccer—ideally NCAA Division 1, 2, or 3—in the next 1–3 years between ages 20–22. I’m looking for advice on both eligibility and the best academic route, especially since my grades in the UK weren’t great and I’m now a lot more focused on academics.

Some key questions: 1. Eligibility after UK university: If I either finish my degree in the UK or transfer out early, would I still be eligible to play NCAA soccer (either as a grad student or undergrad transfer)? 2. Gap year(s): If I take time off from university to work and save for tuition, how would that impact NCAA eligibility (e.g., enrollment gaps or amateur status)? 3. Community college vs. university: Given my past academic performance, would I be better off starting at a U.S. community college—both to adjust academically and potentially move to a 4-year school with a soccer program later? 4. Postgrad soccer: Is playing NCAA soccer as a graduate student a viable option for international students, or are there age/eligibility issues I should know about?

Quick background: • I’ve never played professionally or signed with any club. • My goal is to find way to achieve a good degree and stay after finishing my degree

Any advice from people would mean a lot.

Thanks in advance!
