Why is Connor Wong so much worse at hitting this year?

I know we consistently trash Wong for his atrocious batting this year but if we look back to last year it was the polar opposite. 125 hits over 447 AB's for a 280 avg. To go from that to batting worse than he ever has over a season... Idk it's just rough. I really liked watching him play and bat successfully last year so it genuinely hurts to see the drop off and him getting ragged on by the entire fanbase. Not sure if something can be done about his mechanics, perhaps strength and conditioning, or maybe he's swinging too indiscriminately but I really don't want to give up hope on this guy. Something clearly needs to change though and disappointed to see his slump go on this long.
