New girl got promoted - everyone’s po’d
Clearly, as the title says, this new teacher who has been working at my current center for a month or two got promoted to an admin position that no one even knew they were hiring for. There are several other qualified teachers who have been at the center for years, who have expressed interest in advancement while this girl has only worked there a month give or take. Admin quite literally sprung it on us after two “test days” (director was out, we were all very confused why this random toddler teacher was suddenly in charge of the schedule). I honestly don’t think there is a single teacher not upset about this move except for maybe the girl herself.
Also, it’s a very bizarre choice on the owner’s part to pay to pull someone from a classroom when we don’t have enough staff for coverage to begin with, and we have been told for the past few months that “we can’t afford raises or to buy new toys”. Where did we get the money to give her a substantial lay raise but not new toys for the rooms from somewhere that isn’t the Oriental Trading Catalogue? It actually kind of interesting to watch the center slowly consume itself in such an aggressive way.
I go on family leave in two weeks for the birth of my son, and I already have a new job lined up for after my leave so realistically I shouldn’t care, but this chick needs to bring the attitude down. I don’t like being spoken to like I’m a child by someone who is A. Younger than me with less experience (in the field and the center) and B. Was an equal literally two days ago. Admin doesn’t get why people are upset, and I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a mass teacher migration or this girl finds extreme resistance from everyone, leading to making her life miserable. I’m leaving for various other reasons but this was really kind of the icing on the cake.
I feel stressed out and upset by this as well, not because I don’t think she’s not right for the job, but because I think the whole situation surrounding it is absolutely messed up and that the new girl has absolutely been set up for failure. She just doesn’t understand the staff, kids, or families, nor does anyone seem very interested in helping or providing grace.
It doesn’t help that she’s bad at time management and doesn’t really know how to adjust daily schedules and coverage, and keeps messing it up and upsetting more people.
sigh I’m going to keep my head down and just keep chugging til I’m out. But man am I stressed.
