My theory is that the Current push for internet censorship will eventually lead to the protection of Islam from internet scrutiny.

For a lack of better words the UK's governance is being taken over by muslims or muslim sympathizers. It's likely the muslims who are behind this. Muslims have it out for the internet since the internet have been very critical of Islam ( for good reason )and has been very effective at invalidating Islam on the basis of it being a very questionable belief system, which it certainly is. I think the criticism Islam has had over the age of the internet has been effective at converting people away from Islam. The internet is an existencial threat to Islam because it doesn't care, it will ask the right questions and Islam survived so far to modern by eradicating dissent of it. (This) video explains it better.

My point is that they are trying to set an advantageous precedent for internet censorship, something to point to that they can and should censor the internet. For now they are leveraging the sentiment of protecting children from explicit content to enforce censorship, abolishing internet anonymity and restricting freedom of expression. If they succeed and have this precedent they would expand it to censor any criticism of Islam saving it from the internet by abolishing the current functional structure of the internet to be able to control the narrative of their religion to deceptively paint it in a better light.

There's something we might do about it, if we the analogy of a train, we might not be able to stop the momentum of the train from the inside but we know where the railtracks lead to and we can build a wall on the tracks to block it early before it reaches it destination.

The train engine is the sentiment of protecting children from explicit content, the train's momentum is the insincere push for child safety regulation and the destination is internet censorship. What we build to stop the train is likely overwhelming criticism of Islam. If we strongly criticize Islam harshly enough we'll force their hand and they'll neglect protecting children on the internet enough to make obvious their true intentions.
