Do I need to be a dev to get into cloud?
I graduated this year, got my first job working as an endpoint admin at a big company(blessed). Currently working on AZ-104 and MD-102, aiming to move into a cloud/devops role, and eventually a cloud architect later in my career.
Today i was chatting with one of the dev coworker about my goal, and he was like, “bro, devs do all the cloud stuff, those are dev roles. The IT team usually stays with the hardware” That kinda hurts me. I’ve been working hard toward this and spend a lot of my time after work to find a path towards my goal and now I feel like i wasted all my energy on a wrong direction.
Is that true? Do devs have an edge in cloud? Or do people from sysadmin/infra backgrounds have a real shot too?
Ps:my role needs some network/security basics, server knowledge and troubleshooting skills but mainly is device specific knowledge. However I still think it’s a good experience on how to maintain a system and making sure sh*t doesn’t go wrong.
